Hello everyone! As a family embarking on a huge life transition, we wanted to share our story and what we’re learning along the way. We’re moving to Ireland, and the excitement is real! My husband has started job hunting, and things are looking promising. We're selling everything we own to fund the move — from plane tickets to pet travel — and beginning a brand new chapter on the Emerald Isle.

Moving your furry family members isn't as simple as booking them a seat on the plane — but it is possible with the right preparation.

🐶 Requirements for Pets Entering Ireland:

  • Microchip: Your pets must be microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit chip.

  • Rabies Vaccination: Must be given after microchipping. Pets must be vaccinated at least 21 days before travel.

  • Tapeworm Treatment (Dogs only): Must be administered 1–5 days before entering Ireland.

  • Health Certificate: Issued by a licensed vet and endorsed by your country’s animal health authority.

  • Approved Transport: Pets must arrive through an approved airport (e.g. Dublin) and via an authorized airline.

💡Tip: Contact a pet travel agency or your airline for support with paperwork and travel crates.

  • Proof of Residence Change Needed: Such as a job offer, house lease, or Irish utility bill.

  • Time Limit: You must import your belongings within 12 months of your move.

  • If you order new items (like winter clothes), be aware that customs duties and VAT may apply when shipping from outside the EU.
