One small misstep ๐Ÿ‘‰like posting the wrong type of link or using certain language ๐Ÿ‘‰can lead to content being removed, account warnings, or even permanent bans.๐Ÿ˜

☝As a new marketer, I recently experienced this firsthand. I posted a link in my TikTok comments section and, without warning, lost access to my business account. After reaching out to support with a friendly appeal, I realized how important it is to understand each platform’s community guidelines in detail.

Community guidelines are the rules that govern what is and isn't allowed on a platform.๐Ÿ’ชThey're designed to:

3.  Maintain trust in the platform

4.  Ensure content stays within legal and ethical boundaries

If you break these rules ๐Ÿ‘‰even unknowingly ๐Ÿ‘‰you risk having your content taken down or your account suspended.

Common Guidelines Across Most Platforms
Here are some key rules that apply to almost all social media platforms:


1.  No spam or misleading content: Don’t post repetitive comments, irrelevant links, or overly promotional messages.

2.  Avoid deceptive or harmful links: Shortened or suspicious links (even if harmless) can be flagged.

3.  Respect intellectual property: Don't post music, images, or videos you don’t have the rights to use.

4.  No hate speech, harassment, or violent content

5.  No misleading health claims or financial promises

6.  Avoid over-automation: Don’t use bots to post, follow, or comment excessively.

Platform-Specific Tips
TikTok

1.  Don’t post links in comments, especially if they redirect outside the platform.

2.  Avoid promoting "get rich quick" schemes, crypto offers, or anything that sounds too good to be true.

3.  Use the TikTok Business Center for promotional links and ads.

Instagram

1.  Don’t overuse hashtags or use banned ones.

2.  Keep your bio and captions free from aggressive sales language.

3.  Avoid buying followers or using engagement pods (they're detectable).

Facebook

1.  Avoid frequent edits to ads ๐Ÿ‘‰they can be flagged as suspicious.

2.  Carefully word anything involving health, finance, or weight loss.

3.  Use the Facebook Ads Policy as your guide when boosting posts.

YouTube

1.  Be mindful of your titles and thumbnails; clickbait can lead to demonetization.

2.  Don't link to off-platform sites in the first lines of your description if they’re not verified or trusted.

How to Stay Safe

1.  Read the community guidelines of each platform regularly ๐Ÿ‘‰they update them often.

Use Linktree or similar services to safely share multiple links.

2.  Appeal respectfully if your content is removed ๐Ÿ‘‰Support teams are more likely to help if you're professional.

3.  Back up your content and followers by growing a presence on more than one platform.

4.  Follow creators in your niche and learn from what they do (and don’t do).

What I Learned from Losing My TikTok Business Account

The biggest lesson? Never assume something is okay to post just because others are doing it. Each account is reviewed differently, and what’s allowed one day may be flagged the next.


If you're just starting out, take the time to read the rules before posting links or ads. Use official tools for business promotion, and when in doubt, reach out to the platform before posting.
